2019 #1 Makes His Pick

January 21, 2019

Isaiah Stewart of La Lumiere School in Indiana and the Albany City Rocks of New York, announced his commitment to the University of Washington and head coach Mike Hopkins. The senior made his announcement on ESPN tonight at the HoopHall Classic. He picked the Huskies over his other finalist Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, and Syracuse.

Hopkins recruitment of Stewart stared back when he was an assistant coach at Syracuse University and Stewart was still attending high school in his native upstate New York. Hopkins ties to the big man continued as he traveled cross country to take over the head coaching position at Washington.

Stewart is our #1 ranked prospect in the 2019 class and is a top 5 player nationally. This is another major addition for Washington and Hopkins as they added Kentucky transfer Quade Green. Green is another player Hopkins recruited heavily back in his Syracuse days.

At 6’9″ with his great strength and wide frame Stewart is a true big man. He has good athleticism and is a dominant scorer around the basket. Expect him to be an anchor in the back of Hopkins 2-3 zone. Expect him to be a one and done player as he is a projected lottery pick in many 2020 mock NBA draft.
