We had the opportunity to catch up with Batavia High School (IL) and Fundamental U forward Jayden Johnson. The junior talked to us about his recruitment process, high school season, and other areas of his game.
Standing at 6’6” Johnson has caught the eye of many Division I schools. He has been offered by Southern Illinois and has also drawn interest from Drake, Colorado State, Belmont, Princeton, Tulsa, William & Mary, Loyola, Northern Illinois, Yale, among others. When asked what he is looking for in a school and their basketball program, Jayden told us “I want it to be like a second home for me. I want to have a great relationship with the coaching staff.”
Johnson has been on visits to Loyola and Wisconsin-Milwaukee and came away impressed on both visits. As well he hopes to check out Drake, Northwestern, Tulsa, plus a few others after the season.
While he said he currently has no leaders in his recruitment he did tell us “I have a lot of respect for SIU because they were the first school to offer. So I will always have respect for them…I just want to take it game by game and keep getting better and the recruitment part will come.”
Johnson is a wing forward that shoots the ball well and who can score the ball at a high rate. He told us that his leadership is a strong point of his game and his passing skills have improved while he would like to get more athletic.
