June 10, 2019

On Friday we were at the first ever DeKalb High School Shootout. This was a 16 team event that included Sycamore, the eventual event champions, as well as Dundee-Crown, McHenry, Hononegah, Prairie Ridge, Hinsdale South, Glenbard East, and others. Here are the top performances that we saw in day one of the event.

  • Erin Adams (Hinsdale South): 6’0″ Senior forward that scores well around the basket but also has a nice jumper from beyond the arc. Has good strength and plays big. Rebounds well, especially on the defensive end, attacks the glass hard. Plays tough and does a lot of the little things to contribute big.
  • Gianine Boado (Dundee Crown): Rising junior who is well above average in every facet of the game. Very versatile on both ends of the floor; has nice court vision, grabs a lot of rebounds, and can score from the perimeter as well as the low-post. Can play and defend multiple positions. Extremely powerful when attacking the basket.
  • Autumn Brown (Prairie Ridge): Very long 6’2″ junior forward that plays a couple inches bigger with her length. Plays hard and runs the floor. Can score the ball around the basket and in the mid-range plus put the on ball on the floor too. Nice shot blocking ability. Still developing but has nice potential.
  • Julia Burns (Hononegah): Rising senior with supreme ball handling ability and great court vision. Extremely active defender with quick hands to poke balls loose. Very fundamental player on both ends of the floor. Does a nice job creating her own shot and attacks the basket hard. Crafty around the basket and knows when to score and when to kick out.
  • Evyn Carrier (Sycamore): Highly intriguing 6’3″ freshman forward with a good strong frame.  Very active and plays tough defense inside. Blocked a few shots and altered or deterred even more. Solid rebounder on both ends of the court. Spent most of her time on the perimeter and can  put the ball on the floor but scores it well around the basket. High ceiling for the rising freshman.
  • Jenna Cotter (Lockport): 6’3” rising senior post with nice footwork in the post. Has good go-to back to the basket moves. Runs the floor hard and finishes well with contact. Eats up the glass and uses her length to block shots down low. Strong when securing a rebound.
  • Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore): With older sister and Iowa State commit not playing, Faith more than picked up the slack. The 6’0″ sophomore wing can do plenty on both sides of the ball. With her length and mobility she defends well inside and out. Shoots the three ball at a high percentage with her smooth jumper knocking down three threes in the first game of the day. Well rounded player that can do a lot and contributes plenty.
  • Sanaa Finner (DeKalb): Sharpshooting 5’7″ junior guard that can really knock down the three. Drilled three threes in just the first half of a game. Showed good court awareness and can play on or off the ball. Handles the ball well too and is a good passer.
  • Lauren Huber (Glenbard East): Junior point guard that is good with the ball in her hands. Distributes the ball at a high level with her ability to see the floor so well and pass it nicely on the move. Has good handle and can score it herself on drives and threes off the catch.
  • Ava Interrante (McHenry): Valpo commit impressed in limited minutes. Lengthy guard that attacks the basket well with good handle and moves. Made her biggest impact with her defense. Put plenty of pressure on opposing ball-handlers forcing several turnovers and converted them into fast break baskets.
  • Delani Kosner (Aurora Central Catholic): Senior scoring combo guard with a very versatile offensive skill-set. Quick first step and scores in a variety of ways. Great at creating her own shot off the dribble. Has a nice handle and solid court vision. Knows how to manipulate the defense and get to where she wants on the floor.
  • Morgan Laudick (Marian Central Catholic): Versatile 5’10” guard did a bit of everything for her team. Has the skill to run the point for her team but strength and toughness to defend opposing post in the paint. Good passer that gets into the defense and creates well for her teammates and scores at the basket. Powerful when attacking the basket, tough to stay in front off. Active player that was all over the court and did a little bit of everything for her squad.
  • Ashley Nelson (DeKalb): Skilled versatile 5’10″ senior forward that contributes in so many ways. Tough active defender and a versatile scorer. Scored cutting to the basket, posting up, jumpers in the mid-range. Big on glass on both ends. High IQ player that is very active and plays very big.
  • Josie Ness (Sandwich): Good all-around player that creates her own offense well. The athletic 5’10” junior guard has a real smooth jumper from the mid-range and three, plus showed off a nice floater. Plays with a lot of energy and has a well rounded skill set. Quick active defender and rebounds well for a guard.
  • Kennedi Perkins (Hinsdale South): The sophomore point guard was one of the most impressive players at the shootout. Showed the ability to just take over a game. Has great quickness and moves with the ball to beat defenders with ease. Big time playmaker the gets to the basket incredibly often, passes well on the drive, and also hit the three. Really battles on the court always seemed to be in the right spot to make a play. Impacts a game so much.
  • Madison Rauen (Minooka): Lengthy 5’8″ senior guard. Impressed the most on the defensive end with her on ball defense. Gets all over ball handlers an applies good pressure. With her length and and quickness she is tough to beat and sticks with opponents well. Scored the ball well going to the basket on drives and cuts.
